Tammy joined the Inclusion Gloucestershire team as a Peer Mentor in 2018, and then became a Quality Checker in 2019. She also worked for a while on the Advocacy Evaluation project and she helped to make a video about why Learning Disability Liaison Nurses are important. That video is here.

As well as working with us, Tammy volunteered at the Victoria Centre for over 20 years, where she served drinks and meals, and chatted with people who came to the centre. This was a responsibility that she took seriously and was sad when she wasn’t able to continue with this. She was a popular member of the Forest of Dean Hub and Tammy went to a Choir which she enjoyed being part of.

Tammy loved meeting people and she was a real people person. She was brilliant at making the people we visited on quality checks feel relaxed. Lots of people knew Tammy and she was very popular.  Often she was greeted warmly by the people we met and staff who already knew Tammy from other groups or activities.

Over lockdown, Tammy adjusted to working online and was able to deliver lots of remote quality checks from her flat – but she was very pleased to be able to get out again to meet people and see new places.

Tammy was an observant person and would be quick to spot if someone was uncomfortable or unhappy from their body language, especially if they were someone who didn’t use words. Tammy really cared about people and wanted to make sure that everyone had good quality care. As well as her warmth and natural empathy for the people she met, she was always professional and was proud of the role she had in giving people a voice.

Tammy was kind, friendly and determined. She had a brilliant sense of humour and had a lovely laugh. It was fun to spend time with her. She would see the funny side of things and liked to have a giggle about things.

Tammy had some health challenges in the last couple of years, but her death was a big shock to us all. She is very much missed at Inclusion Gloucestershire but we want to remember the difference she made to so many. She was a wonderful colleague and friend.
