What do we want to find out with this study?
- To find out the barriers that disabled people in Gloucestershire experience in accessing services and support for mental health.
- To see if there are common barriers to accessing support for mental health among specific disability groups (for example lack of understanding about autism in services)
- Understand ways we can make accessing therapies easier to access and ensure their voice shapes talking therapies in Gloucestershire.
- Help inform the NHS and VCSE talking therapy services and commissioners on how to provide a suitable and good service to disabled people.

Why are we doing this study?
In October 2022 we did a survey to find out about the main worries of disabled people in Gloucestershire.
Over half of people (57%) who took part had a mental health condition, either as their main disability or as well as their main disability.
Over half of people (54%) were worried about getting support for their mental health.
People told us that they had lots of worries like the cost of living, housing, health care, cost of carers and these worries made their mental health difficult.
Most non-disabled people don’t have the same amount of worries about these things as disabled people do.
People told us that they had problems getting any support with their mental health or that the support was not accessible to them.
People told us that the mental health support they wanted was counselling or talking therapies.
We have talked to some of the people who run the talking therapies in Gloucestershire and they want to know how they can be more accessible for disabled people.

What will we do in this study?
- Find out what talking therapies there are in Gloucestershire
- Interview disabled people about using talking therapies
- Write a report and make a video of what we find out
- Share what we find out with the people who took part
- Share what we find out with the talking therapy services

How can I take part?
If you would like to take part, you can email research@inclusion-glos.org or phone 07517994765.

What will happen next?
Once you have contacted the team, we will ask you some questions to make sure you are the right person to take part.
Then you will be asked to read some information about the study or someone can read it to you.
You will then need to sign a consent form to agree to take part.
One of our team will arrange to do an interview with you to find out about what it was like for you using talking therapies.
