Summary of the Role:
Inclusion Gloucestershire is a vibrant, successful Disabled People’s Organisation and registered charity (charity number 1171559). We are looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees who help to lead the charity’s direction and play a key role in strategic decisions.
At Inclusion Gloucestershire we have a Finance Director who is employed to do the day-to-day work of managing our money, producing reports and making sure that policies are followed. The Treasurer’s role is to provide oversight and support to make sure that this is done well and that the Board understands and approves or challenges the way that Inclusion Gloucestershire’s money is managed and spent.
Job Purpose
To work with the other trustees providing valuable insight regarding the charity’s key decisions. Lead on financial governance at a Board level:
- Ensuring Inclusion Gloucestershire keeps proper and accurate financial records and sharing this information with the Board
- Presenting key finance messages in plain English to the Board and at the AGM
- Ensuring sound controls (bank mandates, approvals, expenses, delegated limits)
- Overseeing budgets, management accounts, cashflow and forecasts for the Board
- Attending quarterly finance meetings with the operational team to review monthly accounts
- Reviewing reserves policy, risks and investment approach, flagging risks/shortfalls early
- Ensuring budgets are robust and supporting the Board to understand and approve them
- Ensuring that financial plans/strategies are followed, and progress against these plans is reported to the Board
- Filings: ensuring on-time Charity Commission/Companies House filings (with the CEO/Finance Director).
- Supporting the Finance Director to follow agreed policies and strategies
As a Disabled People’s Organisation, we are run by disabled people for disabled people. At least 75% of the Board must have lived experience so we especially welcome interest from disabled people, and other people who may be under represented at a Board level.
Reports to: Accountable collectively to the Board (co-ordinated by the Chair).
Hours
Time commitment: 6 x 2 hour board meetings per year, 4 x 2 hour Quarterly Finance meetings per year and ad hoc communications with the wider Board and SLT.
Locations: Railway House, Bruton Way, Gloucester, GL1 1DG and remote.
